TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Tuesday, December 12, 2023) – Salt Lake jumped on the Golden Eagles from the opening tip, scoring a season-high 123 points in a 45 win in its final home tuneup before beginning conference play next month.
The Bruins improved to 13-0 with the 123-78 win over Laramie County CC.
SLCC refused to repeat the script of an overtime win two weeks ago against the Golden Eagles. Instead, their transition defense forced Laramie to play in the half-court for most of the night, an area where they struggled against the Bruins superior length.
CJ Luster came off the bench to hit a season-high seven threes, scoring 29 points. Jordan Battle added 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. In only 19 minutes, Xavier Edmonds finished with 17 points, five rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots. Bryce Zephir scored 11 points and Michael Folarin rounded out the Bruins' double-digit scorers with 10 points and five boards.
Salt Lake shot 64.7 percent from the field and made 19 threes on 54.3 percent shooting. All are season highs.
The Bruins take a 15-day holiday break before traveling to Tucson, Arizona for a trio of games December 28-30 in the Aztec Classic. SLCC opens the Classic on Thursday, Dec. 28 against McLennan Community College at 1:30 p.m. (MT). Salt Lake also faces Bismarck State College and Cochise College in its final tuneups before beginning SWAC play on January 10. Find tickets for all Salt Lake Community College events here.
