Salt Lake wins two of three games in Arizona Tournament

Samayoa-Mathis leads Bruins past Pima CC

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Saturday, November 11, 2023) – Salt Lake built an 11-point first-half lead and then held on down the stretch for a 67-60 win over Pima Community College.

The Bruins wrapped up the Arizona Tournament by winning two of three games. SLCC returns home with a .500 record after facing some of the nation's best competition already.

Heaven Samayoa-Mathis played all 40 minutes for the second time this season. The sophomore from Sacramento, California packed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Samayoa-Mathis has reached double figures in the past four games, averaging 11.5 points per game this season.

Sophomore Ines Gnahore added 13 points and five rebounds in a reserve role. Ana Oliviera Dias scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 14 boards. 

Laura Di Stefano, a 6'2 freshman out of Rome, Italy, chipped in nine points, five rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot from the post position. 

Salt Lake (3-3) opens the home portion of its 2023-24 schedule by hosting Eastern Wyoming College and Odessa College in the SLCC Thanksgiving Tournament on November 24-25. The Bruins host Eastern Wyoming at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
