TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 10, 2023) - The No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team utilized a strong second-half performance to earn a home non-conference win Tuesday.
SLCC kept its two games-a-week schedule with a non-conference matchup against Laramie County Community College, earning a 111-84 win inside the Lifetime Activities Center. The victory lifts Salt Lake to 18-1.
Both teams repeatedly traded barbs and blows throughout the first half, with SLCC holding a narrow 45-44 lead at halftime after Laramie County went 16-of-28 from the field. The Bruins turned on the pressure defensively in the second half though, holding Laramie to just 34.2 percent shooting and only 6-of-20 from three-point range.
Salt Lake played well offensively, shooting 59.4 percent from the floor. The Bruins also held a 52-26 edge in points-in-the-paint.
Alejandro Vasquez led SLCC with 26 points, going 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Hunter Erickson and
Jalen Weaver both scored 19 points, while
Jared Garcia posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaquan Scott finished with 13 points.
Salt Lake will host in-state rival USU Eastern in a Scenic West Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, playing at 3:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
