TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 30, 2022) – The Salt Lake Community College Softball team sent its sophomores out in mixed fashion, posting a doubleheader split at Norma Carr Field.
SLCC fell in an 11-10 loss and then earned a 5-4 win over the College of Southern Nevada, moving to 6-2 on the season against CSN. The split sits the Bruins at 31-15 overall and 29-12 in Scenic West games, leaving Salt Lake in second place in the league standings with just one weekend left.
The Bruins will close the Spring 2022 regular season next weekend with a four-game series at Snow College next weekend.
Southern Nevada 11, Salt Lake 10: A bevy of offense ended in a narrow loss fo rhte Bruins.
CSN started well, getting a two-run home run in the first inning. Sal tLake responded by taking a 4-2 lead after the fourth inning, keyed by a
Brooklyn Pintar RBI single. CSN then posted five runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead, prior to Salt Lake scoring four runs in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead.
Both teams would continue to jockey for advantage throughout the later innings, with SLCC's
Lyndsey Madrigal hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 10-10. CSN scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning.
Madrigal,
Hola Nakayama and
Allie Laub all went 2-of-4 at the plate, while Pintar went 2-of-3 with a walk.
Teya Gasu earned the pitching loss.
Salt Lake 5, Southern Nevada 4: A
Hola Nakayama home run powered the Bruins in a victory to close the series.
Trailing 3-1 in the third inning, Nakayama hit a three-run home run to lift Salt Lake to the lead.
Brooklyn Pintar started SLCC's offense in the second inning, getting an RBI single, prior to CSN taking a lead in the third inning. Pintar also added a sacrifice-fly RBI in the sixth inning.
Pintar was 2-of-2 in the win.
Teya Gasu earned the pitching win, throwing six innings and posting seven strikeouts.
