No. 12 Bruins roll past USU Eastern in series opener

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 28, 2022) – The No. 12 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team couldn't have played any better to open a home series Thursday.

SLCC earned a 10-2 win over in-state rival USU Eastern at Cate Field, opening a four-game home series in West Jordan by staying undefeated against the Eagles this season. The Bruins are now 35-8 overall and 29-4 in Scenic West play.

It was actually USU Eastern who took an early lead, posting a 2-0 advantage after the third inning. Salt Lake turned on the burners in the fifth inning, scoring five runs in an inning keyed by a Cade Perkins three-run double. Karson Bodily and Dalton Hodge both added two-run singles in the sixth inning. Perkins also had an RBI triple in the sixth inning.

Bodily went 3-of-4 at the plate to lead Salt Lake, while Perkins was 2-of-3 with 4 RBI's. Derik Eaquinto earned the pitching win, throwing six innings and finishing with seven strikeouts.

Salt Lake and USU Eastern will play a doubleheader on Friday.
