SLCC Softball swept in Saturday doubleheader

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 23, 2022) – The Salt Lake Community College Softball team suffered a tough performance Saturday.

SLCC was swept in a Scenic West doubleheader by the College of Southern Idaho, falling in decisions of 15-6 and 11-9 to fall back to four games behind league-leading CSI with just two weeks left in the regular season. Salt Lake is now 28-14 overall and 23-9 in Scenic West games.

The Bruins will host Southern Nevada in a four-game series next weekend.

Southern Idaho 15, Salt Lake 6: Early offense helped the Lady Golden Eagles out to a big win.

CSI posted five runs in the first inning, creating an advantage SLCC could never surmount. The Bruins did score three runs in the third inning to make things exciting, using a Lyndsey Madrigal RBI double, and cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth inning on a Trinity Benson RBI single. Unfortunately for Salt Lake, trailing 8-6 entering the sixth inning, Southern Idaho scored six runs in the inning to end hopes for a Bruin comeback.

Madrigal was a perfect 4-of-4 in the game.

Southern Idaho 11, Salt Lake 9: A close game once again was decided on CSI's power at the plate.

Southern Idaho hit four home runs in the game, helping the Lady Golden Eagles to overcome a potent Salt Lake offense. The Bruins posted three unearned runs in the top of the first inning to take a lead, with CSI come right back to tie the game. Salt Lake then built an 8-4 lead midway through the fourth inning after a Hola Nakayama RBI single, but CSI went on a 4-1 scoring run late in the game to earn the win.

SLCC had five players finish with multi-hit games. Jayci Finch earned the pitching loss in relief.
