TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 19, 2022) – A tough weekend ended in a doubleheader split for the Salt Lake Community College Softball team Saturday.

SLCC split a pair of games with visiting Southern Idaho, earning an 8-4 win and then falling in a 9-8 loss at Norma Carr Field. The day's results leave Salt Lake's overall record at 13-9, alongside a mark of 11-6 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games.

The Bruins will travel to play at Southern Nevada next weekend.

Salt Lake 8, Southern Idaho 4: SLCC picked up its first win of the series to open the day Saturday, scoring five runs in the fourth inning to earn victory.

Trinity Benson hit a solo home run in the third inning to get the Bruins on the board, then received a two-run shot from Benson in the fourth inning to up the Salt Lake lead to 4-0.
Karah Schultz also hit a two-run single in the frame.
Allie Laub hit an RBI single for the Bruins in the sixth inning, along with scoring a run in the fifth inning on a passed ball.Â

Lyndsey Madrigal was a perfect 4-of-4 in the game, while Benson was 2-of-4 with the pair of home runs.
Briley Young earned the pitching victory, throwing 5.1 innings.Â

Southern Idaho 9, Salt Lake 8: A late Bruins comeback came up short in the second game.

In spite of the loss,
Allie Laub consistently set the table for Salt Lake, hitting an early pair of RBI singles.
Karah Schultz hit a two-run home run, then
Jayci Finch hit a solo home run to give the Bruins a 5-3 lead after the third inning.

Southern Idaho scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-5 lead. The Bruins made a valiant comeback attempt, with
Lyndsey Madrigal hitting a three-run home run to cut the deficit to a single run. Â

Laub finished with a 3-of-4 mark at the plate.
Bailey Frischknecht earned the pitching loss in relief.
Teya Gasu started the game and left with no decision.Â
