No. 19 Bruins sweep through Southern Idaho in Friday doubleheader

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 18, 2022) – The No. 19 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team picked up another doubleheader sweep in Scenic West Athletic Conference play Friday.
 
Hosting Southern Idaho in a doubleheader at Cate Field, the Bruins finished with wins of 3-2 and 5-3 to take a 3-0 series lead heading into the final game Saturday. SLCC is now 17-4 overall and 11-0 in Scenic West games.
 
Salt Lake and Southern Idaho will play at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Cate Field to close the series.  
 
Salt Lake 3, Southern Idaho 2: A bases-loaded walk helped the Bruins earn a close win.
 
Hunter Swapp was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, walking in Braden Winget for the go-ahead score. Swapp had opened the scoring for SLCC with an RBI double in the first inning, then scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
 
Karson Bodily went 2-of-4 at the plate, while Swapp was 1-of-3 with a pair of RBI's. Daxton Purser earned the pitching win, throwing six innings of two-run ball that featured six strikeouts. 
 
Salt Lake 5, Southern Idaho 3: Hunter Swapp continued his tear through Southern Idaho in game two, leading the Bruins to a doubleheader sweep.
 
Zachary Blaszak hit an RBI single in the second inning to get the Bruins on the board, setting the stage for Swapp to hit a two-run home run later in the inning to boost SLCC to a 3-0 lead. Blaszak and Swapp both added RBI singles in the sixth inning.
