TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 19, 2022) – Nothing says the holidays like December non-conference basketball tournaments in Las Vegas.
The No. 14 Salt Lake Community College Women's Basketball team opened a three day appearance in the 'College of Southern Nevada Holiday Basketball Invitational', facing off against several strong regional rivals. SLCC opened the tournament with a 68-61 loss to Central Arizona Monday. The Bruins are now 11-2 overall.
In a game that went back-and-forth, Salt Lake held a narrow 22-19 lead after the first quarter. Struggles in the second quarter played a role in downing Salt Lake, with the Bruins shooting just 14.3 percent from the field in the quarter to trail 34-30 at halftime. Central Arizona also held a 17-4 edge in points-off-turnovers.
Aminata Diakite finished with 18 points, while
Finau Tonga posted 17 points.
Allyzee Verdan scored 13 points.
The Bruins will play against Glendale Community College on Tuesday, with a scheduled game at 12:30 p.m. SLCC will also play Casper College on Wednesday.
