TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 8, 2022) – Being shorthanded did little to deter the No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team Saturday.

SLCC picked up a 96-65 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College, overcoming the loss of players under COVID-19 protocols in the impressive win. The victory lifts the Bruins to 18-0 overall and 7-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

"It was rough coming off a COVID pause, but I was proud of our guys' tenacity and willingness to stay with it," said SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor. "It wasn't easy and you could tell we were rusty, but we just kept competing. We forced 29 turnovers and out-rebounded CNCC; those stats were both critical."

Missing players, the Bruins still jumped out to a double-digit lead at halftime, posting a 43-32 advantage. SLCC turned on the burners offensively in the second half, outscoring Colorado Northwestern 53-33 to close out the strong win.

SLCC's defense played a strong roll in the win, as the Bruins forced 29 turnovers and scored 32 points-off-turnovers. Salt Lake also scored 64 points-in-the-paint.

"We got a lot of key contributions from a ton of different guys," said Taylor. "
Marion Humphrey really filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Festus Ndumanya had 13 rebounds,
Jackson Last had 10 points and 8 boards, and
Chase Adams had 6 assists. We had six players in double figures and all nine players that were available today with COVID protocols contributed."

Marion Humphrey posted 16 points to lead Salt Lake, while
Doctor Bradley scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Jordan Brinson had 13 points and
Jaxon Pollard posted 11 points.
Jackson Last and
Chase Adams both scored 10 points apiece.

Salt Lake will continue Scenic West play on Jan. 12, traveling to play Southern Idaho.
