TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 12, 2022) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team powered through yet another challenger on the road Wednesday.
Â
SLCC, playing at No. 11 Southern Idaho, earned a 79-69 road win over their longtime rivals in their first matchup of the season. The Bruins are now 19-0 overall and 8-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games with the win.
Â
Southern Idaho jumped out to an early lead, leading by 8 points midway through the first half, before Salt Lake responded with an offensive flurry to take a 37-30 halftime lead. CSI made a comeback attempt late in the second half but it proved to be too little, too late. Defense was key in the game for Salt Lake as the Bruins forced 35 Golden Eagles turnovers, leading to 32 SLCC points.Â
"We won tonight on the defensive end," said SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor. "Our pressure really affected the game and was critical. We got crushed on the glass which we need to fix the next time we play them, but I was really pleased tonight with our poise."
Â
Jaquan Scott posted 21 points in the road win to lead Salt Lake, while
Jordan Brinson contributed 17 points.
Marion Humphrey scored 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting in the game.
"
Jaquan Scott had a little 'coming-out' party tonight, which was good to see," said Taylor. "He was poised and controlled the paint on offense.
Jordan Brinson was phenomenal again tonight, as he was great going to the basket and finishing."
Â
Salt Lake will travel to play at Community Christian College in Redlands, Calif. on Saturday.
