TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 25, 2022) - The No. 22 Salt Lake Community College Women's Basketball team fell in a close battle between NJCAA national contenders Tuesday.
SLCC, playing a rescheduled game against No. 5 Southern Idaho, lost in a 69-63 decision with the Golden Eagles in the first of two matchups between the programs this week. The Bruins are now 14-4 and 6-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games with the loss.
Salt Lake suffered a slow start, going just 3-of-12 from the line in the first quarter, and then trailed at halftime, 34-27. Southern Idaho stretched its lead to as many as 14 points midway through the fourth quarter, prior to SLCC going on a furious rally to as little as five points, 68-63. CSI iced the game with free-throws from there.
In a balanced scoring attack for the Bruins,
Finau Tonga scored a team-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while
Naelle Bernard and
Diarrah Sissoko both finished with 10 points apiece. SLCC shot just 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the free-throw line.
The Bruins will return home to play the College of Southern Nevada Thursday. The game will begin at 5:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
