SLCC Baseball splits with Southern Nevada

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 7, 2021) – The Salt Lake Community College baseball team powered to a doubleheader split Friday, setting up a pivotal game Saturday in the race for the Scenic West Athletic Conference title. 
 
SLCC earned a 6-4 win and fell in a 11-10 to No. 17 Southern Nevada, moving to 2-1 in the series. With the wins, the Bruins are now 30-15 overall and 23-8 in Scenic West play.
 
Salt Lake will play Southern Nevada in a series finale on Saturday. The winner of the game will claim the Scenic West regular-season title. 
 
Salt Lake 6, Southern Nevada 4: A big inning propelled Salt Lake to the victory.
 
Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Salt Lake scored four runs to take a lead they would never relinquish, scoring three unearned runs. Chase Peterson hit an RBI double in the second inning for Salt Lake. 
 
Dalton Hodge went 2-of-4 at the plate, with Eli Norman going 1-of-3. Blake Whiting earned the pitching victory, throwing 2.1 innings. Jake Wilson had a no-decision in a start, finishing with five strikeouts.
 
Southern Nevada 11, Salt Lake 10: A furious SLCC rally ended in a loss for the Bruins.
 
CSN jumped to a 9-1 lead in the sixth inning before Salt Lake went to work in the sixth inning with a Sean Keating two-run double. Keating later hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, with Dalton Hodge hitting an RBI single. Eli Norman and Bruer Webster both had RBI walks before the rally ended. 
 
Keating went 3-of-4 at the plate with five RBI's, while Hodge was 3-of-5.
