No. 2 SLCC Softball sweeps through Southern Nevada

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 7, 2021) -  The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College softball team continued building on its momentum, earning a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep Friday.
 
SLCC downed the College of Southern Nevada in the opening day of the series, earning victories of 11-0 and 7-5. The Bruins are now 46-2 overall and 36-2 in Scenic West play.
 
Salt Lake and Southern Nevada will play another doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Salt Lake 11, Southern Nevada 0: An early display of offensive power lifted Salt Lake to a win.
 
Savanna Montoya hit a solo home run to get Salt Lake on the board in the opening frame, with Rylee Harris later adding a two-run home run. Rylee Harris hit an RBI single in the second inning, with Mackenzy Richins hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning. 
 
Montoya and Mercedes Call both went 2-of-4 at the plate, while Harris was 2-of-3 with a trio of RBI's. Bailey Frischknecht earned the pitching win, throwing a complete game of five innings with four strikeouts. 
 
Salt Lake 7, Southern Nevada 5: The Bruins built an early lead, withstanding a late CSN rally in the win.
 
Mercedes Call hit an RBI single in the first inning, with Rylie Bennett hitting an RBI triple in the second inning to up SLCC's lead to 3-0. Savanna Montoya hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Bruins a 5-2 lead, with Brylee Marziale-Hill adding a solo home run in the seventh inning. 
 
Montoya was 3-of-3 in the win, with Call going 3-of-4. Kaytlyn Cripps was 2-of-4 at the plate. Alyssa Millemon earned the victory in the circle, finishing with four strikeouts.
