TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 25, 2021) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College softball team is off to a strong start in its bid for an NJCAA national title, opening the national tournament with an impressive victory.
SLCC earned a 6-0 win over Georgia Military in the tournament's opening round in Yuma, Ariz., on Tuesday, moving into a winner's bracket matchup on Wednesday with No. 8 seed San Jacinto-South. The win boosted the Bruins to 52-2 on the season.
As they have all season, Salt Lake found offense in a variety of ways in the first inning, utilizing a
Hola Nakayama two-run home run and a run scored on a wild pitch to take an early 3-0 lead.
Rylie Bennett added a solo home run in the third inning to boost the lead to 4-0, while
Brylee Marziale-Hill hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to lift SLCC to a 6-0 lead.
Marziale-Hill went 2-of-2 in the win, with Nakayama going 2-of-3 in the win. Bennett also went 2-of-3.
Alyssa Millemon earned the pitching win, striking out four in three innings of work.
Salt Lake will play at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Jacinto-South advanced to the matchup with a 1-0 win over Chattanooga State. The winner advances to a Thursday quarterfinal matchup.
