TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 24, 2021) – Nothing gains attention like perfection and the No. 2 Salt Lake Community College softball team finished off a perfect series with USU Eastern Saturday.

The Bruins earned a doubleheader sweep of their in-state rival, downing USU Eastern by scores of 9-4 and 13-5. Salt Lake is now 40-2 overall and 30-2 in Scenic West play, with a guaranteed top seed in the upcoming Region 18 tournament.

SLCC will host Snow College in a four-game series next weekend.

Salt Lake 9, USU Eastern 4: SLCC overcame an early deficit, with the Bruins coming back for the win.

Mackenzy Richins helped the Bruins get on the board in the first inning, with an RBI single, while
Kaytlyn Cripps and
Josee Haycock hit solo home runs in the second inning to tie the game.
Mailee Maka took over from there, hitting an RBI single and then hitting a solo home run in the sixh inning.

Mercedes Call went 2-of-3 at the plate, while Richins was 2-of-4.
Bailey Frischknecht earned the pitching win, striking out four hitters in 6.1 innings.Â

Salt Lake 13, USU Eastern 5: Power-at-the-plate led to an impressive win.

After USU Eastern took an early 2-0 lead, the Bruins scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning, with
Savanna Montoya triggering a three-run home run to help the Bruins take the lead.
Savannah Heaton later added a two-run home run in the fifth inning, with
Kaytlyn Cripps posted a two-run home run later in the inning.Â

Heatong and Noland both went 2-of-3, with Heaton posting a trio of RBI's.
Alyssa Millemon earned the pitching win, finishing with three strikeouts.Â
