SLCC Baseball splits day with Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 17, 2021) – A Saturday doubleheader at Cate Field ended in a Scenic West Athletic Conference split for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team.
 
The Bruins earned a split with the College of Southern Idaho, finishing with a 4-2 win in game one and a 3-2 loss in game two. SLCC's overall record is now 23-14, with a Scenic West Athletic Conference record of 16-7.
 
Salt Lake will finish the series with Southern Idaho on Sunday. 
 
Salt Lake 4, Southern Idaho 2: Early scoring boosted the Bruins to the win.
 
SLCC scored three unearned runs in the first inning to take an early lead, with Travis Johnson scoring on a passed ball. Southern Idaho came back to cut the deficit but Karson Bodily had an RBI fielder's choice to earn the victory.
 
Dalton Hodge went 2-of-4 at the plate. Jake Wilson earned the pitching victory, throwing 4.1 innings while striking out a trio of batters. 
 
Southern Idaho 3, Salt Lake 2: An extra-innings battle ended in a SLCC loss.
 
Dalton Hodge hit a solo home run in the first inning to boost the Bruins to an early lead, a lead they would hold onto until CSI scored a pair of runs in the sixth innings. Braden Winget hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to tie the game. Eventually, Southern Idaho scored the go-ahead run in the 13th inning.
 
Breck Eichelberger had a no-decision in the loss, striking out nine batters.
