TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 17, 2021) – The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College softball team responded from a tough Friday, earning a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep.

The Bruins earned wins of 11-1 and 12-2 over the College of Southern Idaho, earning a 3-1 series victory. Salt Lake is now 34-2 overall and 26-2 in Scenic West play.

Salt Lake will host USU Eastern in a four-game series next weekend.Â

Salt Lake 11, Southern Idaho 1: A strong offense boosted SLCC to the run-rule win.

Hola Nakayama hit a three-run home run in the first inning, helping the Bruins to a 6-0 lead.
Mackenzy Richins later added an RBI single, with SLCC scoring two unearned runs later in the game.

Rylee Harris-Thorpe went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead SLCC, while
Mercedes Call was 2-of-4.Â

Salt Lake 12, Southern Idaho 2: Another run-rule victory for Salt Lake came thanks to extra-base hits.

SLCC scored its first runs on a
Mercedes Call RBI double, with Savannah Montoya later hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning to boost the Bruins to a 5-0 lead.
Mackenzy Richins later hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, with a three-run home run in the sixth inning.

Montoya went 2-of-3, with Call going 2-of-3. Richins finished 2-of-4 at the plate with five RBI's.
Bailey Frischknecht earned the pitching win.Â
