SLCC Baseball sweeps Friday doubleheader with Eagles

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 19, 2021) – A beautiful day on the Wasatch Front saw a couple of beautiful results for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team. 
 
SLCC earned a doubleheader sweep over in-state rival USU Eastern on Friday at Cate Field, earning victories of 10-7 and 3-1 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference matchup. The victories move Salt Lake to 10-11 overall and 7-4 in Scenic West play.
 
Salt Lake will look to finish the series sweep Saturday, with an 11:00 a.m. game scheduled at Cate Field.
 
Salt Lake 10, USU Eastern 7: A back-and-forth game ended with a Bruins win.

SLCC scored three runs in the first inning, with Travis Johnson hitting an RBI double as part of the opening frame. Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the third inning, Karson Bodily had an RBI single to stretch Salt Lake to an 8-6 lead.

Bodily finished 3-of-4 at the plate, while Johnson went 2-of-4 with a pair of RBI's. Jake Wilson earned the pitching win, surrendering five runs while also striking out five USU Eastern batters. 
 
Salt Lake 3, USU Eastern 1: A late comeback lifted Salt Lake to the win.

USU Eastern took an early lead, with Dalton Hodge scoring the winning run in the sixth inning. SLCC had only two hits in the win, with Breck Eichelberger leading the Bruins to the win via a fine pitching performance. Eichelberger threw six innings, with an unearned run and a tally of three strikeouts.
