TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 9, 2021) – A highly-touted matchup to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play went the way of the No. 14 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team Tuesday.
SLCC earned an impressive victory over No. 15 Southern Idaho to open league play, downing the Golden Eagles by a margin of 65-60. Salt Lake's overall record is now 7-0 overall and 1-0 to start Scenic West play.
Salt Lake led early but Southern Idaho jumped out to a halftime lead, taking a 29-24 advantage into the break. The Golden Eagles would stretch the lead to 10 points midway through the third quarter before SLCC came rallying back, with the Bruins outscoring CSI 23-14 in the final period to pick up the victory. Salt Lake shot 53.8 percent in the final period (7-of-13), making 6-of-8 shots from the free-throw line.
Awa Sidibe had a masterful perfomance to lead the Bruins, finishing with 23 points.
Naelle Bernard posted 19 points on a perfect 5-of-5 performance from three-point range, while
Aminata Diakite scored 14 points.
The Bruins will travel to play Colorado Northwestern on Thursday, finishing the week with a home game against Southern Nevada Saturday.
