TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 9, 2021) – The No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a tough loss Tuesday.

The Bruins fell in a back-and-forth game with No. 18 Southern Idaho in their league opener, falling 90-82. The loss sits SLCC's overall record to 7-1 and 0-1 in Scenic West play.

SLCC jumped out to an early lead, taking a 43-36 advantage into the halftime break after leading by as many as 16 points midway through the first half. Southern Idaho turned on the burners in the second half, outscoring SLCC by a margin of 54-39 in the period. CSI's defense in the second half told the story, with Salt Lake making just 5-of-15 three-point shots.
Sam Hofman led the Bruins in scoring, finishing with 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range.
James Lee scored 17 points, while
Jay Allen-Tovar and
Da'Vantre Vitor both finished posted 15 points apiece.Â

Salt Lake will travel to play at Colorado Northwestern on Thursday. SLCC will close the week by hosting the College of Southern Nevada on Saturday.
