TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 11, 2021) – A back-and-forth contest finished with the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team earning a close victory Thursday.
The Bruins downed Colorado Northwestern Community College, 81-76, in a victory to move to 1-1 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings. SLCC moves to 8-1 overall with the win.
SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor said the game was a good bounce-back after a tough loss at home Tuesday.
"We were very fortunate to get out of there with a win tonight," he said. "CNCC played well, they were more locked in than us and they played harder. We have to get better. We have to be better prepared."
In a game that saw momentum swings on both sides, Salt Lake fell behind early as CNCC jumped out to a 17-7 lead early in the first quarter. SLCC fought back to take a 43-39 halftime lead, eventually stretching the lead to double-digits themselves midway through the second quarter before a CNCC comeback. The Spartans cut the deficit to three points, 79-76, with nine seconds left but couldn't close out the Bruins as
Max Watson hit two late free-throws.
A balanced scoring effort saw Jay-Allen Tovar lead Salt Lake with 16 points, while
Marvin Price netted 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
James Lee also posted 13 points.
Salt Lake will host Southern Nevada inside the Lifetime Activities Center on Saturday.
