TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 18, 2021) - The No. 12 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season Thursday, falling in a tight Scenic West Athletic Conference battle with an in-state rival.
The Bruins suffered a 63-60 loss to USU Eastern, falling on a pair of late free-throws by the Eagles. The loss drops SLCC to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in SWAC play.
Salt Lake jumped out to an early 16-15 lead in the first quarter, stretching the lead to 35-31 at halftime. In a game that featured three lead changes, USU Eastern seized momentum in the second half and stretched their lead to as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter. SLCC battled to cut the score to 61-60 with 1:06 remaining after an
Awa Sidibe layup but couldn't complete the comeback.
Sidibe finished with a team-high 17 points, while
Riley Frith posted 16 points.
Leilani Augmon also scored 10 points for Salt Lake.
SLCC will travel to play Snow College on Saturday. The Scenic West Athletic Conference game will tip off at 1:00 p.m.Â
