TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 13, 2021) – If the start to the season is an indication, the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team will continue to fly high throughout the 2021 season.
The No. 3 Bruins catapulted to an 89-67 win over the College of Southern Nevada on Saturday, finishing a strong start in the opening week of Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Bruins are now 9-1 overall and 2-1 in Scenic West play.
SLCC coach
Kyle Taylor said the Bruins played well after a slow start.
"We played a terrific second half, and really executed our game plan in that half," he said. "
Quincy McGriff and
Jackson Last both gave us huge boosts off the bench in the second half; really proud of how both of those young players responded."
After trailing 36-33 at halftime, the Bruins outscored CSN by a margin of 56-31 in the second half, holding the Coyotes to just 36 percent shooting (9-of-25). On the other end of the floor, SLCC shot a red-hot 55.88 percent (19-of-34) and led by as many as 25 points in the half.
James Lee led SLCC with 15 points, while
Felix Lemetti posted 13 points and
Da'Vantre Vitor finished with 12 points. Last finished with 8 points off the bench, going 2-of-2 from the field.
Taylor said week one of league play showcased the strength of the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
"Our league is good; really good from top to bottom and every night is going to be a battle," he said. "You have to come ready to play every night for 40 minutes or you're going to lose."
Salt Lake will play a pair of games next week, hosting USU Eastern on Thursday and traveling to play Snow College on Saturday.
