No. 9 SLCC Men's Basketball earns strong home win over Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 15, 2020) - The No. 9 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team earned a strong home win on 'Sophomore Day', capping an undefeated Scenic West Athletic Conference season at home.

The Bruins picked up a 69-63 win over the College of Southern Idaho, sweeping through the Golden Eagles in the regular season. The win boosts Salt Lake's overall record to 24-4 and 10-0 in the Scenic West standings.

Salt Lake took a 38-34 lead at halftime, maintaining a narrow lead throughout the game. The Bruins' defense limited CSI to 36.7 percent shooting, also forcing 15 Golden Eagles turnovers. SLCC led by as many as 17 points midway through the second half.

SLCC coach Kyle Taylor praised his team for the overall energy of the win.

"Our defense and rebounding were outstanding tonight," he said. "They carried us on a night we didn't make outside shots, turned the ball over too much and couldn't finish at the rim. That's exciting for me to see. We dominated on the glass and that was our top key to win today."

Ed Chang led the Bruins with 14 points, while Christian Popoola and Spencer Johnson scored 11 points. Salt Lake held a 33-9 advantage in bench points.

Salt Lake will travel to play at Snow College on Thursday and at USU Eastern on Saturday.
