TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 1, 2020) - The No. 23 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the Scenic West season Saturday.
The Bruins, playing at longtime rival Southern Idaho, suffered a 66-52 defeat at the hands of the Golden Eagles, breaking a long winning streak in the process. The loss drops Salt Lake to 17-5 overall and 6-1 in the Scenic West.
Both SLCC and CSI went back-and-forth throughout the game, with Salt Lake trailing 42-41 entering the final period. The difference came in the last quarter as Southern Idaho went on a 24-11 scoring run that gave them a command of the final score. The Golden Eagles shot 66.67 percent from the field in the final quarter.Â
Leichan Williams was Salt Lake's lone double-digit scorer, finishing with 10 points. The Bruins made just 3-of-19 attempts from three-point range.
Salt Lake will face a critical matchup on Thursday inside the Lifetime Activities Center, facing the Scenic West's second-place team in USU Eastern. The matchup is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.Â
