TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 23, 2020) – A strong overall performance led to an important victory for the No. 20 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team on Thursday.

The Bruins downed in-state rival Snow College, 87-77, inside the Lifetime Activities Center, utilizing 46 points in the second half to earn the win. The victory boosts SLCC to 5-0 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and 19-4 overall.

A consistent scoring effort helped SLCC to the win with five Bruins finishing in double figures. Salt Lake led 41-36 at halftime, owning the glass throughout the game with a rebounding margin of 47-36. The Bruins took a 54-43 lead with 13:28 left in the game after an Asa McCord three-point shot, never looking back nor surrendering a double-digit lead.

Christian Popoola and Spencer Johnson both finished with 16 points apiece to lead Salt Lake, with McCord posting 15 points. Ed Chang scored 12 points and Tutu Majok finished with 10 points. Popoola, Johnson and Majok all finished with 8 rebounds.

Bruins coach Kyle Taylor said he was pleased with the team's commitment to pregame goals throughout the contest.

"We keep finding ways to win and that is the sign of a good team," he said. "(Majok) was fantastic down the stretch by rebounding and finishing at the rim, (McCord) made some big three's, and (Popoola) controlled the tempo and made some big shots. We got just enough stops to win.

"We need to keep improving as we have a long way to go. We have to stay humble and stay hungry."

SLCC will play at Colorado Northwestern at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bruins will return to the court the following Saturday at Southern Idaho.
