SLCC Baseball remains undefeated in Scenic West, walks off against Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 9, 2019) - Some players are just able to handle late-game moments.

Tied 6-6 in extra innings of Saturday's second game, the Salt Lake Community College baseball team was looking for a player who could step up and deliver a critical moment to lift the Bruins to a doubleheader sweep of the College of Southern Idaho. SLCC found its man in Brody Colledge, who hit a hard grounder to third base that scored Josh Cowden and gave Salt Lake a 7-6 win.

Salt Lake also earned a 5-2 lead earlier in the day to earn the doubleheader sweep over Southern Idaho, boosting the team's overall record to 14-4 and 7-0 in the Scenic West. SLCC and Southern Idaho will close the series out with a single game on Sunday at Cate Field in West Jordan.

Salt Lake 5, Southern Idaho 2: A consistent effort lifted Salt Lake to the game-one victory over the Golden Eagles.

A Tyler Dean sacrifice-fly RBI scored Brady Brook to give SLCC an early 1-0 lead. Southern Idaho countered with two runs in the second inning before the Bruins reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs of their own in an inning powered by a Colton Moore double. A two-out Ryen Edwards RBI single scored Gabe Singer to boost the lead to 5-2. Singer led Salt Lake by going 2-of-3 on the day.

Jake Wilson earned the win for Salt Lake, striking out eight while surrendering only four hits and two runs. RJ Hazen earned the save.

Salt Lake 7, Southern Idaho 6: A big-time hit lifted Salt Lake to the extra-innings victory over Southern Idaho.

Brody Colledge's hard-hit grounder to third allowed Josh Cowden to score, giving Salt Lake the win in a game that went back-and-forth. The win was remarkable, considering Salt Lake trailed 6-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning. In the ninth, Cole Gambill's RBI scored Brody Colledge, setting the table for Dean's dramatic two-run, two-out double that tied the game and sent it to extra innings.

The Bruins scored three runs in the first inning to take an early lead, with a pair of doubles from Dean and Gambill leading the way. The game would be tied 3-3 until Southern Idaho scored three runs in the eighth inning.

Ryen Edwards earned the win on the mound for Salt Lake, throwing four scoreless innings to clinch the victory in extras.
