No. 9 SLCC Softball run-rules CSN In doubleheader sweep

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 30, 2019) - Each time the No. 9 Salt Lake Community College softball team has lost a game in an opening day of Scenic West play, the Bruins have responded on Saturday with ferocity.

Count this Saturday as another ferocious day for the Bruins. SLCC earned a doubleheader sweep at Lady Coyote Softball Field in Henderson by scores of 15-2 and 12-0. The wins lifts Salt Lake's overall record to 24-6 and 16-4.

Salt Lake will travel to play a four-game series against Colorado Northwestern next weekend. The two teams will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.

Salt Lake 15, Southern Nevada 2: A strong start pushed the Bruins to the impressive win.

A Tarni Stepto RBI double in the first inning pushed Salt Lake out to a lead they would never relinquish. The Bruins posted five hits in the inning.

Arienn Ackerman hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Stepto hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Stepto was a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate while Ackerman was 2-of-3. Kierstyn Ketchell earned the victory in the circle, striking out three in the run-rule victory.

Salt Lake 12, Southern Nevada 0: An offensive explosion lifted SLCC to another run-rule victory.

The Bruins scored five runs in the first inning and held an 8-0 lead after three innings. Combined with Tarni Stepto and Mia Cullimore's combined pitching dominance, Salt Lake held court by striking out five Coyotes and allowing just two hits.

Salt Lake had nine different players earn hits. Stepto was a perfect 2-of-2.
