TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 9, 2019) - After a few weeks of ups-and-downs, the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team is back in the winners' circle.
The Bruins, who entered Saturday's home matchup against USU Eastern just 2-3 over the last five games, rebounded with a strong 68-60 victory over in-state rival USU Eastern. The win lifts SLCC's overall record to 18-7, while boosting their record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference to 5-4.
The game was back-and-forth, with both teams being tied at 28-28 at halftime. USU Eastern took control early in the second half and stretched their lead to 43-37 midway through the period before Salt Lake went on a comeback, eventually tying the game at 50-50 (no pun intended) with 4:43 remaining in the game. While the teams went back-and-forth over the following minutes, SLCC went ahead for good late on a
Tyler Bennett three and never relinquished the lead.
The difference in the victory likely came in Salt Lake's 20-13 advantage on the bench. USU Eastern also made only 11-of-22 free-throws to help the SLCC cause.
