TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 20, 2019) - Any thoughts of a slow start for the Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team have faded over the last month as the Bruins continue a red-hot tear through the chill December weather.
SLCC upped its winning streak to eight games with a big win over North Idaho College in Friday's action at a tournament hosted by the College of Southern Nevada in North Las Vegas. At the CSN Sports Center, Salt Lake earned a 90-66 win over North Idaho; a win that featured an outstanding defensive performance. The win also improves the overall record for SLCC to 10-4.
In a game where the Bruins near trailed, Salt Lake took a narrow 21-17 lead after the first quarter and a 48-42 edge at halftime. The second half belonged to Salt Lake with the Bruins earning a 42-24 edge and taking complete control of the game. SLCC's defense limited North Idaho to just 37.7 percent shooting; conversely, the Bruins shot 60 percent from the field and held a 46-18 advantage in points-in-the-paint. Salt Lake also held a 12-0 edge in fast-break points and a 25-7 lead in bench points.
Awa Sidibe put up another signature performance for the Bruins, finishing with 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Other double-digit scorers for Salt Lake included
Ashley Scoggin (15 points) and
Hazel Fui (13 points).
Salt Lake will play the final game of the tournament on Saturday against Dawson Community College. SLCC's next home game is scheduled for January 4 against Colorado Northwestern Community College to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play.Â
