SLCC Women's Basketball downs No. 5 Central Arizona

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 19, 2019) - Warm weather in the Southern Nevada desert led to one of the hottest upsets of the season for the Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team Thursday.

Playing in a tournament hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, SLCC earned a 68-61 overtime win over No. 5 Central Arizona to earn one of its biggest wins of the 2019-20 season. The win boosts Salt Lake's overall record to 9-4.

The Bruins consistently controlled the tempo and pace of the game, turning a 14-4 tie at the end of the first quarter into a 32-22 halftime lead. Salt Lake's defense made a considerable difference in the game, keeping the Lady Vaqueros to just 34.8 percent shooting from the field and a 1-of-14 performance from three-point range. SLCC led by four late in the game, allowing Central Arizona to tie the score and send the game to overtime, but the Bruins went on a 7-0 run to close out the game and the win.

Awa Sidibe finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds, making 9-of-10 foul shots. Ashley Scoggin posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Aminata Diakite posted 10 points off-the-bench.

Salt Lake will play North Idaho College on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The game will be played in North Las Vegas at the CSN Sports Center.
