TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 8, 2019) - The No. 13 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team did not have the home opener it was hoping for Friday evening.
Playing their first game inside the Lifetime Activities Center after a pair of impressive road victories, the No. 13 Bruins suffered a 92-89 overtime loss to Casper College in the opening game of the Region 9/18 Challenge. The loss drops SLCC to 2-1 on the young season.
After playing a back-and-forth game, Casper held an 81-77 lead with just 1:34 remaining. Salt Lake countered with a
Matt Gray three-point basket to cut the deficit, finally tying the game on a
Justice Hill jumper to send the game to overtime. Once in extra time, the Bruins clawed back from an early deficit to once again tie the game at 87-87. Casper was able to earn the win with a trio of free throws.
Spencer Johnson led Salt Lake with 20 points, followed by
Justice Hill's 13 points.
Christian Popoola and
Matt Gray both contributed 11 points.
Tutu Majok finished with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Salt Lake will face Western Nebraska at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday inside the Lifetime Activities Center.Â
