TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 30, 2019) - A close halftime lead turned into another double-digit win for the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team.
In a game that featured 3 lead changes, SLCC earned a 93-83 win over Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday to close the SLCC Thanksgiving weekend tourney with a perfect record. The win also boosts Salt Lake's overall record to 8-2.
The Bruins took a quick 8-2 lead after a pair of
Asa McCord free-throws, a lead they clung to as they went on to a 45-42 halftime lead. SLCC added to the advantage in the second-half, leading by as many as 16 points with 8:10 left in the half. Defense in the latter part of the game played a strong role in the win as Western Wyoming shot just 34.2 percent in the second-half; the Mustangs also made just 5-of-24 three-point attempts in the game. In comparison, Salt Lake made 15 three-point shots in the game.
Justice Hill led Salt Lake with 28 points on 9-of-16 shooting, making 6-of-9 three-point attempts.
Spencer Johnson finished with 16 points while
Christian Popoola and
Asa McCord both scored 14 points.
Salt Lake will play in a tournament in Florida next weekend. The trio of games is scheduled to begin on Thursday with a game against Florida State College.
