SLCC Men's Basketball downs Northeastern in tourney action

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 29, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team opened a home-hosted tourney with an impressive win on Friday.

Facing off against Northeastern Junior College, the Bruins downed NJC with a 93-79 win, turning a large first-half lead into a victory to begin the annual SLCC Thanksgiving tourney. The win lifts Salt Lake to 7-3 overall.

SLCC had a strong offensive game throughout the evening, shooting 50 percent from three-point range in the first-half (9-of-18) while holding Northeastern to just 18 percent (2-of-11). SLCC led by as many as 21 points midway through the first-half. Northeastern cut the deficit to 53-44 minutes into the second-half before SLCC powered back to maintain the double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Justice Hill scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting to lead Salt Lake, while Asa McCord finished with 18 points in the win. Spencer Johnson scored 13 points for SLCC and Christian Popoola scored 10 points. Ed Chang scored 10 points off-the-bench.

Salt Lake will play Western Wyoming at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
