TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 21, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team earned a strong home victory to open up a multi-week home stand.
Playing just one game this week, the Bruins powered to a 79-57 win over Eastern Wyoming College inside the Lifetime Activities Center, stretching the team's winning streak to three games. With the win, SLCC is 6-2 overall.
Salt Lake took a halftime lead of 40-28, playing strong defense while forcing Eastern Wyoming into a shooting percentage of 35.7 percent. Defense was a central theme in SLCC's win as the Bruins scored 32 points-off-turnovers and forced 26 turnovers. Salt Lake held Eastern Wyoming to a shooting percentage of just 36.4 percent (20-of-55) for the game.
Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor said the team's energy was key to their defensive success.
"Our defense was outstanding tonight and was the difference in the game," he said. "We pressured them well, got in passing lanes and turned them over. I was very pleased with our defensive effort and intensity."
Asa McCord continued a strong run of play with 14 points, while
Spencer Johnson and
Christian Popoola both finished with 13 points.
Sedrick Hammond scored 11 points for Salt Lake off the bench.
Salt Lake will take a few days off while preparing for next weekend's SLCC Thanksgiving Classic. The tourney will start on Friday with a game against Northeastern Junior College for the Bruins.
