TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 2, 2019).- History was made by the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team on Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

For the first time in program history, the Bruins will begin the steps of competing for an NJCAA national championship after advancing to the NJCAA District One championships with a win over in-state rival Snow College in the Region 18 championship match. SLCC downed Snow, 3-1, to move to 14-0-1 on the season.

SLCCÂ started the match with momentum as
Omar Gomez scored in the 15th minute, with
Samuel Owusu scoring in the 35th minute to up the lead to 2-0.
Juan Araque Manuel scored a goal in the 70th minute to boost the lead to a commanding 3-0. Snow scored a late goal in the match as Kade Jorgensen cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Bruins statistically dominated the match, holding an 11-4 advantage in total shots and a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Gomez took a team-high 4 shots individually. SLCC goalkeeper
Isaac Roy earned the victory, making a save in a complete-game performance.

Salt Lake will now await its opponent in next weekend's NJCAA District One championship match. The winner of that matchup will advance to the NJCAA Division-I Men's Soccer championships on Nov. 18 in Florida.Â
