TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 8, 2019) – The greatest season in program-history for the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team saw its first Bruins loss in the NJCAA District-I championship match Friday.

Playing at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, the Bruins suffered a 3-1 defeat by Arizona Western College on a pair of penalty kicks. The loss drops Salt Lake's overall record to 14-1-1.Â
Arizona Western scored early in the first half on a penalty kick, scoring in the 11
thminute. AWC added to the lead with another penalty kick in the 63
rdminute and added yet another goal in the 78th minute to take a 3-0 lead. The Bruins got on the board in the 81st minute on a
Ryen Jiba goal but it proved to be too little, too late for SLCC.
In spite of trailing in the final score, the Bruins statistically were the dominant team with a 14-5 advantage in total shots. Jiba,
Samuel Owusu and
Azriel Johnson all took a trio of shots.Â
Arizona Western will earn the automatic bid to the NJCAA tournament from District-I.Â
