No. 3 SLCC Men's Soccer falls in NJCAA District-I soccer final

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 8, 2019) – The greatest season in program-history for the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team saw its first Bruins loss in the NJCAA District-I championship match Friday.

Playing at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, the Bruins suffered a 3-1 defeat by Arizona Western College on a pair of penalty kicks. The loss drops Salt Lake's overall record to 14-1-1.

Arizona Western scored early in the first half on a penalty kick, scoring in the 11thminute. AWC added to the lead with another penalty kick in the 63rdminute and added yet another goal in the 78th minute to take a 3-0 lead. The Bruins got on the board in the 81st minute on a Ryen Jiba goal but it proved to be too little, too late for SLCC.

In spite of trailing in the final score, the Bruins statistically were the dominant team with a 14-5 advantage in total shots. Jiba, Samuel Owusu and Azriel Johnson all took a trio of shots.

Arizona Western will earn the automatic bid to the NJCAA tournament from District-I.
