No. 5 SLCC Men's Soccer rallies for win over USU Eastern

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 5, 2019) - The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team maintained its supremacy in the state of Utah and the Scenic West Athletic Conference Saturday, thanks to an important victory over an in-state foe.

The Bruins downed in-state rival USU Eastern by a margin of 3-2, keeping alive its perfect Scenic West record and its unbeaten streak. The win boosts Salt Lake's overall record to 9-0-1 and a perfect mark of 7-0-0 in the Scenic West.

In a back-and-forth matchup, it was Salt Lake who took the early lead after a Samuel Owusu goal early in the first half. After allowing a USU Eastern goal shortly before halftime, SLCC responded with a Daniel Mulholland goal just 10 seconds in the second half. The play developed as Ryen Jiba found Mulholland on a picture-perfect cross. Salt Lake scored its final goal on a Mulholland pass from Paul Richnow. Mulholland individually led the Bruins with a pair of goals.

SLCC coach Mark Davis said the victory over USU Eastern was critical.

"In the men's game, we came out strong with multiple chances early," he said. "We dictated the game the way we wanted to."

Salt Lake will return to the friendly environment of Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman for two critical Scenic West Athletic Conference matches this week. First, the Bruins will host the College of Southern Nevada in a 1:00 p.m. start on Thursday; Saturday, Salt Lake will play in-state rival Snow College.
