TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 10, 2019) - The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team has played all over the western United States over the past month, earning victories in several different venues.
Fortunately for Salt Lake, the Bruins found victory in the friendly confines of Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman with a narrow 2-1 win over the College of Southern Nevada in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match on Thursday. The win lifts Salt Lake's overall record to 9-0-1 and their SWAC record to 6-0-1.
It was a close, back-and-forth battle between the Bruins and the Lady Coyotes, featuring a defensive battle that saw the teams play deep in the first half with a 0-0 tie. Salt Lake got on the board with a goal in the 42nd minute, a
Taylin Nguyen score on a
Whitney Turner assist. Moments later, Turner took her own turn at scoring on a
Hannah Lee assist. The goal was Turner's sixth goal of the season.
Southern Nevada scored a goal in the 60th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 but Salt Lake's defensive ability helped to limit the Lady Coyotes in their scoring. Overall, SLCC held an 11-4 advantage in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. Bruins goalkeeper Siuana Pauli finished with a pair of saves in the win.
With the victory, Salt Lake needs to defeat or tie with Snow College on Saturday to earn the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season title. The Bruins will play Snow at 1:00 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman on Saturday.Â
