TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 17, 2019) - The No. 17 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team fell in heartbreaking fashion Thursday, losing late to in-state rival USU Eastern.
The Eagles claimed the victory over the Bruins, 87-86, with Salt Lake falling short on multiple opportunities to grab the victory. Trailing 87-86 late, SLCC missed two free-throws and a three-point attempt, dropping their overall record after the loss to 15-5 and just 2-2 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
In a game that went back-and-forth, Salt Lake held a narrow 50-47 lead at halftime after leading by as many as 14 points midway through the first half. In a back-and-forth game, Salt Lake and USU Eastern were tied 83-83 with 2:12 remaining. From there, USU Eastern went on a 4-0 run to take control of the game as the Bruins were unable to take advantage of go-ahead opportunities.

Daron Henson led all scorers in the game with 24 points, while Salt Lake's
Josh Colon also contributed 16 points. St. John's commit
Cameron Mack had 12 points, with
Asa McCord posting a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Salt Lake will have the weekend off but will play two games next week, including a home game Thursday against Colorado Northwestern. SLCC will also travel to play at in-state rival Snow College Saturday.Â
