TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 29, 2018) - In the world of intercollegiate athletics, Salt Lake Community College was far from a hospitable host to the College of Southern Nevada this weekend.
The Bruins had already swept a two-match series against the Coyotes in men's-and-women's soccer Saturday, with a volleyball match against CSN looming. With the idea of sweeping the league foe out of the Wasatch Front in mind, No. 3 Salt Lake powered past CSN with a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-14, 25-18). The win moves Salt Lake's overall record to 20-1 and 4-0 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Salt Lake's strength at the net proved to be a decisive advantage throughout the match, as the Bruins held a 36-22 advantage in kills and pushed CSN into 23 attack errors. SLCC's improved service also played a role in the victory, with the Bruins holding an 11-2 edge in service aces. Defensively, Salt Lake limited Southern Nevada to a hitting percentage of -.011 while hitting .286.
Hellen Lacava led the Bruins with six kills in the match, while
Bruna Correa had five kills.
Jensyn Turner,
Lauryn Ritchie and
Ryley Daniel all had three kills apiece. Lacava also had five aces in the victory. SLCCÂ libero
Callie Whitney led the program with 16 digs.Â
With the victory, Salt Lake stays undefeated at the top of the Scenic West with Southern Idaho, setting up a important matchup with the No. 2-ranked Golden Eagles next Friday at home. The Bruins will host 'Dig Pink Night' inside the Lifetime Activities Center, as they attempt to break a first-place tie with Southern Idaho. The match is scheduled to begin a 7:00 p.m.Â
