No. 16 Salt Lake downs Western Wyoming, finishes at 12-2 going into preseason

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 8, 2018) - The No. 16 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team wanted to go into their annual holiday break with momentum.

Consider that mission accomplished, as Salt Lake earned another victory over Western Wyoming Community College, downing the Mustangs 74-53 to end their pre-holiday break schedule with a record of 12-2. In the process, SLCC also swept through competition in their final home tournament, picking up their eighth-straight victory.

Salt Lake held a 37-33 lead at halftime, a week after defeating Western Wyoming on the road. The Bruins took control of the game in the third quarter, going on a 20-7 run that saw the lead stretch to as many as 29 points. SLCC dominated Western Wyoming in the second half, holding the Mustangs to just 18 percent shooting (6-of-33).

A week after winning weekly honors from the Scenic West Athletic Conference, Bruins forward Savanah Crane had another outstanding performance, posting 17 points and 15 rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting. Miki'ala Maio posted 14 points in 22 minutes, while Laura Pichot had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hazel Fui was SLCC's other double-digit scorer, finishing with 10 points.

Salt Lake will enter its annual holiday break, with its next game scheduled on Dec. 27 against Central Arizona in tournament hosted by Southern Nevada. The Bruins will play their next home game on Jan. 12, a league home game against in-state rival Snow College.
