TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 7, 2018) - It's not every season that programs get to face off against former greats during the regular season.
Due to a change in their tournament lineup, the No. 16 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball program was able to do just that, playing against the SLCC Alumni team. The current Bruins improved their preseason mark to 11-2, powering past the former Bruins to earn a 57-50 win.
It was the SLCC Alumni who led early, taking a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and 35-22 lead into halftime. From there, Salt Lake would power to a 35-15 run in the second half to earn the victory. The Bruins limited the SLCCÂ Alumni team to just 20 percent shooting in the second half (5-of-25), out-rebounding them 38-29.
Miki'ala Maio led the Bruins with 19 points, with
Hazel Fui scoring 10 points. Shordy Mulford led the Alumni squad with 15 points, with Tilar Clark scoring 14 points.Â
Salt Lake will play on Saturday against Western Wyoming at 3:00 p.m., concluding their preseason tourneys before an extended holiday break. SLCC won't play until Dec. 27 after its game tomorrow.Â
