TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 23, 2018) - Home-cooking treated the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team just fine Friday, as the Bruins rolled to an impressive win in their first game of the season inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
Hosting their annual Thanksgiving tourney, SLCCÂ picked up a 70-39 victory over Bellevue College, moving to 6-2 in the preseason. The Bruins held a 36-16 halftime lead and hummed offensively throughout the game.
Salt Lake dominated nearly every statistical category on both offense and defense, holding a 38-14 edge in points-in-the-paint and a 21-2 advantage in points-off-turnovers. SLCC shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first half (15-of-27), jumping out to a 5-0 lead after a
Leichan Williams layup. Leading 15-10 midway through the first quarter, Salt Lake went on a 7-0 run that ended with the Bruins leading 22-10 at the quarter-break.
Offense was spread around in Salt Lake's win, with ten different Bruins scoring in the game. Williams picked up a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while
Kayla Anderson went a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and finished with 10 points. SLCC had 27 bench points.
The Bruins will host another game Saturday as part of their Thanksgiving tourney, with Salt Lake playing Casper College at 5:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center.Â
