Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah- The No. 7 Bruins snapped the No. 3 Golden Eagles win streak and added to their own after defeating CSI 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18). SLCC improves their record to 20-7 overall and 6-2 in SWAC play. The last time Salt Lake beat Southern Idaho was in Twin Falls during the 2014 season. The win also puts the Bruins in position to tie for the conference title or potentially win it. In order to do so Salt Lake needs to win out and CSI has to lose one of their final games.
After a rough first set where Salt Lake trailed the entire set and couldn't position themselves to take the lead, they entered the second set down 0-1 in the match. Salt Lake was playing well on both sides of the ball being in good position for digs and finishing with kills. Olivia Osbourn had a beautiful dig that kept the ball alive and
To'a Faleao dumped it off for the point to improve Salt Lake's lead midway through the second set giving SLCC a 15-9 edge. CSI battled back and tied 21-21 but Salt Lake was determined to finish the set strong.
Andrea Brady and
Jade Timothy combined for a crucial block to give Salt Lake the lead and
To'a Faleao and
Jade Timothy followed with additional points from their kills, securing the set win 25-22.
The snowball effect was in motion after tying the match up 1-1 and it was noticeable the Golden Eagles were rattled. The Bruins continued to hammer away and their improvements against CSI showed with tremendous digs coming from
Meilee Brown,
Thamyres Fuchs,
Thayna Fuchs, and
Ellie Cottam.
The fourth set Salt Lake came out with a defensive fire. SLCC had three blocks that started their 5-0 run that helped them pull away early in the set. CSI would only narrow the Bruin lead to three points but then Salt Lake would pull away. Knowing the fight that the Golden Eagles bring Salt Lake never let up, and ultimately took the fourth set and match off of an Aubrey Steiner kill.
To'a Faleao had a monster game with 18 kills, five blocks, and four digs while contributing a total of 20.5 points for the Bruins.
Alyssa Walker passed out 45 assists and came through defensively with eight digs.
Ellie Cottam lead the defense with 22 digs and a kill.
Jade Timothy and
Andrea Brady were the defensive presence at the net tying together for a team high 6 blocks each. Brady and Timothy also combined for 25 kills.
Meilee Brown and
Thayna Fuchs had 11 digs each and Olivia Osbourn had a serving ace with six blocks and five digs.
