SALT LAKE CITY – With Region 18 seeding implications potentially on the line, it was No. 8 Snow College able to defend their home court with a 3-2 win over No. 5 SLCC.
Three weeks ago the Badgers came to Bruin Arena and in a back and forth affair the Bruins came out on top by way of sweep with all three sets decided by two or three points.
This time around Snow answered the bell and jumped out to an early lead by winning the opening set 25-18.
SLCC returned to form by winning set two 25-20 to even up the match 1-1 heading to the break.
Maintaining that momentum they rolled through set two winning 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead.
Needing to win the remaining two sets, a near impossible feat against SLCC, Snow gave themselves a chance clawing their way to a 25-19 set four win over the Bruins to force a winner take all fifth set.
Falling behind early in the set, the wheels simply just fell off as the Badgers wrapped up the set 15-7 to seal the dramatic victory.
It was the trio of
Carol Grasso (Sao Paulo, Brazil),
Kallie Schmit (Kalama, WA), and
Jessica Quayle (Ogden, UT) that led SLCC offensively with 17, 13, and 11 kills, respectively.
Rachel Davis (Riverton, UT) added 51 assists while
Brighton Taylor (Bountiful, UT) had six blocks.
SLCC drops to 16-8 overall, 4-2 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Next up the Bruins will wrap up their SWAC road swing Thursday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 25. Thursday will be in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at 7 p.m. against North Idaho College as Saturday will be against rival College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho at 1 p.m.
