SALT LAKE CITY (September 4, 2010) – The third ranked SLCC Bruin Volleyball team swept the weekend tournament going 4-0.  The Bruins only dropped two sets in the four matches they played over the weekend.  No. 3 SLCC moves their record to 9-1 as they head to the Patriots Day Tournament in Houston Texas. 

Salt Lake began the Marriott round robin tournament against Central Wyoming winning in three sets 25-11, 25-10 & 25-19.  Ame White led the way with nine kills and five aces while Shelbi Zaldain and Melissa Rider each had five kills apiece.  In the second match of the day SLCC faced a strong Western Nebraska team winning in four sets 25-19, 25-23, 24-26 & 25-23.  White finished with a team high 19 kills; Erika Charry hit double digits with 10 kills and five blocks.  Defensive specialist Anna Burgess had 30 digs and Catalina Charry collected a season high 50 set assists.

The second day of the tournament saw Salt Lake face a dangerous Northwest team.  The match started out quickly; Salt Lake controlled the first two sets winning 25-19 and 25-19.  However Northwest rebounded winning the third set 25-17 and pushing the fourth set to extra points with Salt Lake narrowly winning 27-25.  Zaldain had a career high seven aces while Kellie Turner led the team with 11 kills.  White and Zaldain added nine kills each and Rider served four aces. 

No. 3 Salt Lake fired on all cylinders in the final match against #2 Missouri State University -West Plains.  The Bruins never allowed MSU to get into any rhythm.  Salt Lake easily won 25-10, 25-11 and 25-21.  White led the way with 14 kills, Zaldain had nine kills and Catalina Charry gathered 30 set assists.
