Shay Goulding Meurer

Shay Goulding Meurer is in her second stint leading the Salt Lake Community College Bruins, returning to the program in May 2020 after previously serving as head coach from 2003 to 2007.
In 2025, she guided Salt Lake to a 27-6 overall record and 9-1 SWAC mark. A six-time NJCAA Region 18 Coach of the Year and four-time AVCA West Region Coach of the Year, Goulding Meurer has led the Bruins to seven NJCAA National Tournament appearances, including a national runner-up finish in 2007 (44-2). In nine seasons at SLCC, her teams own a 310-102 overall record (.760).
She left SLCC after the 2007 season to become head coach at Brigham Young University, where she coached three AVCA All-Americans.
In 2012, Goulding Meurer founded UP Only High-Performance Coaching. She is the author of the book From Skill Set to Mindset and regularly presents leadership workshops, clinics, and mindset training for coaches and athletes nationwide.
Goulding Meurer played collegiate volleyball at Coastal Carolina University, where she served as team captain and earned MVP honors. She holds a master’s degree in Exercise Science (Motor Learning & Sport Psychology) from Utah State University (2001) and a bachelor’s degree in History from BYU (1998).
Originally from Visalia, California, she served a mission in Santiago, Chile. An accomplished athlete outside of volleyball, she is a former Ironman triathlete and ski instructor. She is married to John Meurer and they have an 8-year-old son, Evan.
