Kenzie Newton – Head Women's Basketball Coach
Salt Lake Community College proudly welcomes Kenzie Newton as the head coach of the Bruins women's basketball program beginning with the 2026-27 season.
Newton brings more than 20 years of successful coaching experience and a proven track record of building championship programs, developing student-athletes, and fostering winning cultures.
Prior to joining SLCC, Newton served as an assistant coach at Westminster University, where she gained valuable collegiate coaching experience in recruiting, player development, scouting, game preparation, and day-to-day program operations. Her time at Westminster helped prepare her to lead one of the nation's premier NJCAA women's basketball programs.
Before entering the collegiate ranks, Newton spent two decades as one of Utah's most respected high school basketball coaches. She was the head coach at Mountain Ridge High School from 2019-2025, where she built the program into a region champion in 2023 and earned Region Coach of the Year honors.
Prior to Mountain Ridge, Newton was selected to start the girl's basketball program at the newly opened Stansbury High School in 2010. During her nine seasons with the Stallions, she led the program to two region championships and four appearances in the state tournament quarterfinals. She also established a successful youth feeder system that provided basketball opportunities for more than 500 young athletes while creating a lasting culture of excellence within the community.
Newton began her head coaching career at Grantsville High School in 2005. In five seasons, she guided the Cowboys to two region championships and two state quarterfinal appearances while earning Region Coach of the Year honors during the 2007-08 season.
Beyond the high school and collegiate levels, Newton has made a significant impact on girls' basketball throughout Utah. She served as Elite Director for Flash Basketball Academy from 2014-2020 before founding Utah Summitt Basketball in 2020. Through Utah Summitt, she has helped hundreds of student-athletes develop their skills while guiding many through the recruiting process to earn collegiate basketball opportunities.
A native of Tooele, Utah, Newton enjoyed an accomplished playing career before entering coaching. She starred at Tooele High School before continuing her collegiate career at Snow College from 2000-02, helping lead the Badgers to a 30-3 record and conference championship during the 2000-01 season. She concluded her playing career at Southern Utah University from 2002-04.
Newton earned her bachelor's degree in physical education in 2005 before completing a master's degree in human performance and sports conditioning.
Known for building programs centered on accountability, toughness, family, and player development, Newton is committed to helping student-athletes succeed on the court, in the classroom, and in the community while continuing Salt Lake Community College's tradition of excellence.
Newton and her husband, Jeff, have two children, Kya and Jacoby. Away from basketball, she enjoys fly fishing, golfing, and being her children's #1 fan.
